Our pulpit will once again be graced by the Reverend Dr. Mari Castellanos, who will bring a message from the prophet Jeremiah in a sermon entitled “Truth and Consequences”. We are grateful to Mari for her leadership in recognizing Native American Ministry Sunday. We welcome the return of James Estes and the Reverend Diana Gomez de Molina. We are especially please to announce that Stephan Brodd, Music Director at First Trinity Lutheran, will join us this week to direct the First Church Choir. We especially look forward to hearing the First Trinity organ!
Beginning this Sunday, the nursery will be moving upstairs to the music room at First Trinity. Sunday School began the new season last week on Homecoming Sunday. Sunday School teachers for the fall include Stefani Filak and Priscilla Waters, who will be teaching k-1st grades and Ann Bushmiller and Carolyn Marsh who will be teaching the 5th-7th grade class. Other news from Christian Education! We are in the process of seeking an additional nursery staff, and as always, volunteers are needed and would be greatly appreciated.
Inserted in the Worship Folder for Sunday (9/16) is a Pastoral Letter on the Iraq War from the Collegium of Officers of the United Church of Christ. UCC congregations are being asked to sign petitions which will be available at the rear of the sanctuary.
Bible Study with Ron Hopson is scheduled to resume next Wednesday (9/19) and continue every Wednesday thereafter. The group will meet at 6 pm in the library. The topic will be Psalms of lament.
After a month off in August, the Community Chorus, under the direction of Loretta Uzelle, returns to First Church next Sunday, September 23rd. Choir rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, September 17 from 5:30-7:00 p, in the sanctuary of First Trinity Lutheran. Please let Nora Marsh know of your interest in singing with the Chorus.
A Congregational Meeting will be held in the sanctuary on Sunday, September 23 at 2:30 pm to vote on recent developments in the Site Development Project.
Mark your calendars! As announced in last week’s worship service, the congregation will have its annual retreat on Saturday, October 20. The Worship Commission is active in the planning, as the congregation is invited to share in the process of contemplating and clarifying our hopes for meaningful worship together.
