I’ve invited each of us to spend this summer learning from Jesus by reading the gospel of Matthew. When we read Matthew’s story of Jesus, imagine that Jesus is speaking not only to his followers in the first century, but also through them to us, to a congregation of his twenty-first-century followers. Listen for how Jesus’ words comfort our congregation, or challenge our congregation, or both. On July 27 I’ll preach on the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5-7, and we’ll have an opportunity for a sermon talkback following worship and fellowship time.
