First Congregational UCC in Washington, DC, is looking for an Associate Minister of Christian Education!
Position Objective:
Create, maintain and enhance the spiritual development and religious education programs for the intergenerational church community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Christian Education
- Administer the Christian Education programs of the church including all members and all ages
- Assisting and coordinating with the Christian Education commission on recruiting teachers, middle/school youth group leaders, and confirmation mentors. Provide for their orientation, training and support.
- Hire, manage, evaluate and dismiss childcare providers. Work with Childcare providers to develop an age level appropriate activities for the 2 – 4 age children.
- Provide leadership in choosing, implementing and utilizing intergenerational Church School curricula and make recommendation to the Christian Education Commission regarding the use by the church.
- Supervise Sunday intergenerational Christian Education Programs ex: Bible Study, Sunday Nurtures, and Sunday school.
- Develop additional ways for the teenagers to take on a more active/leadership role with in the church and encourage such participation.
- Develop and coordinate middle school and high school programs, including involvement in outreach opportunities. Assist the Senior Minister with Confirmation if requested.
- Coordinate with the Senior Minister and the Worship commission to create multigenerational worship services as needed.
- Work with Director of Music to insure that the youth have an enriching music experience.
- Coordinate with the Christian Education Commission and other staff to provide special programming such as family fellowship events, Sunday school recognition Sunday and Christmas Pageant.
General Administrative Functions
- Manage the Christian Education Calendar and provide regular communication with parents and youth through a church school newsletter and with the entire congregation through periodic letters in the all-church newsletter Gabriel’s Horn.
- Monitor and coordinate the budgeted expenses for supplies, curriculum and childcare during the year. Help develop the Christian Education Budget for the next fiscal year in conjunction with the Christian Education Commission.
- Staff and attend Christian Education Commission meetings. Attend such other meetings as appropriate after consultation with the Senior Minister.
- Attend staff meetings and communicate regularly and effectively with other members of the staff to provide for a coordinated ministry within the congregation.
Worship
- Periodically preach and lead aspects of worship and other services and rites as determined by the Senior Minister.
Reporting Relationship
The Associate Minister of Christian Education shall report to and be supervised by the Senior Minister and will be evaluated periodically by the Personnel Committee in conjunction with the Senior Minister with input from the Christian Education Commission and other groups with whom the Associate Minister works. The Christian Education Commission will provide guidance and support with respect to the Church education programs.
