First Congregational United Church of Christ in Washington DC is looking for part-time Director of Music who is
- an accomplished organist, choral director and pianist,
- a musician familiar with a variety of musical styles and comfortable with exploring diverse cultural musical traditions (from popular to traditional),
- able to spiritually lead the congregation in the musical aspect of worship,
- able to work with children, youth (to help establish a band) and adults who have a wide range of talent,
- able to guide our congregation in appreciating and melding diverse musical traditions,
- and who will work with the ministerial staff to grow church membership through opening the music program to our neighboring community.
Currently, we worship at First Trinity Lutheran Church (501 4th St NW, Washington, DC) at 1:00 pm Sundays. The choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30pm-9:00pm (September – June) and Sundays at 12:15pm (September – July). The music director is expected to meet regularly with the ministerial staff and to participate in Worship Commission meetings monthly. Salary range is $15,000 – $20,000. The approximate time commitment is between 10 – 15 hours/week. Applications accepted until the position is filled.
